We have been operating in Townsville for the past 4 ½ years
Our Mission
Townsville Street Chaplain Inc is a Christian Ministry outreach service run by volunteers from across the churches of Townsville. We aim to reach beyond the church walls to offer God’s love and presence to the wider city, to provide a listening ear to all and to engage with our community in acts of practical charity.
One foundation of our ministry is to be a safeguard for vulnerable people in need of assistance in the nightclub district during peak operating times.
Who can help?
If you are a committed Christian who feels a calling to this work, you could be a Street Chaplain. Or if you would like to sit at the tent and chat with people and support the Chaplains, we would love to have you contact us. We are in need of more volunteers!
Characteristics of a Street Chaplain
A committed Christian
A good listener
Has a strong concern for others
A bridge-builder, not a preacher
Ability to understand and empathize with a person’s circumstances without judging
Be prepared to participate in excellent and practical training for the role.
Observation evenings
In order to introduce potential volunteer Street Chaplains to the role we are inviting potential volunteers to observation evenings. The commitment for an observation evening is to be available from 10:30 pm to no later than 2am to observe and share in the ministry opportunity this offers.
