Kiribati Appeal 2015 wk1.001Aitkenvale Uniting Church has been in a partnership with the Bairiki-KUC in Kiribati since 2012. Since then we have partnered through UnitingWorld with them to ‘share life and faith together’; sponsored a visit to Townsville; supported their Pre-School with on-site training of teachers and by supplying resources; and shared knowledge about ‘healthy living’ and living well with diabetes. The Bairiki KUC (Kiribati Uniting Church) has determined to be a champion of healthy living for the island.

Currently there are just 2 glucometers for 50,000+ people. 25% of the population is affected by Type 2 Diabetes compared to 7% in Australia. Diabetes and its effects contributes significantly to a low life expectancy – 57 for men and 62 for women. Information, resources and a champion for ‘healthy living’ can change that horrific statistic.
